New Zealand Winter Games 2011

100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games held its inaugural event last year, drawing a very successful crowd of athletes. This year, the event wasn't held since the inaugural FIS Snowboard & Freestyle Junior World Champions was taking its place in Lake Wanaka, New Zealand. However, at the completion of the FIS event, the 2011 edition has now been confirmed. The games will feature 16 days of snow and ice sports, and is expected to entice more than 1,000 athletes to make the trip down south. If 2009 was any indication, next year’s event will be something every winter athlete must attend. The 2009 event was the first of its kind besides the Winter Olympics, and proved a remarkable predictor of the 2010 Winter Olympics results. Seven Paralympic and ten Olympic medalists competed in the 2009 games, including every single medalist in the men's snowboard halfpipe competition. The games are sure to be a highlight of the year. They will be held August 13th-28th

While places like New Zealand and Chile are the places to be this time of year if you want some powder to shred, in a few months time there will be plenty of powder here in Revelstoke. If you want prime terrain and even better powder, then you'll need to head backcountry with Mica Heli Guides. Their tenure is laid out over more than 177,000 acres of Canadian Rocky Mountain terrain unlike anything else in the world. Add the wicked blower pow that drops quite regularly thanks to the microclimate of their territory, and you have the most excellent heli skiing possible. However, the secret is out. So book soon, so as not to miss your opportunity to shred what even the pros consider to be heaven. Mountain lodge spa
