Summit NZ Freeheel Challenge

As we here in beautiful British Columbia await the arrival of our first serious snowfall, the folks down south in New Zealand are already enjoying theirs. This coming weekend, the Summit NZ Freeheel Challenge will be taking place there. This is a competition for telemarkers and ski tourers, so a different set of skiing skills will be on display than what B.C. typically sees.

The action starts this Saturday, September 25th, and the first event is a classic giant slalom race. The telemarkers and ski tourers will be separate at this point, but the next event will see the two disciplines facing off against each other. That event will be an all-mountain rogaine event, a challenge in which participant's minds will be placed to the test as much as their bodies. BC cat skiing

The competition used to only be open to telemarkers, but the organizers have opened it to ski touring as well, given the large growth the sport has seen in recent years. If the weather is nice this weekend, there will also be a ski touring and backcountry downhill challenge on the Sunday.

If you are looking for some great telemarking and ski touring, look no further than a vacation with Mica Heli Guides. Their tenure is located just north of Revelstoke, B.C. and covers more than 177,000 acres of epic terrain. Their exclusively small group tours are based out of their secluded backcountry lodge. Set high above the Kinbasket Lake, the lodge is a modern luxury hidden among the old growth forests on the western slopes in the Canadian Rockies. With everything from pillow lines to tree skiing and more, Mica's tenure won't disappoint. Neither will the mountains of powder that drop every season. While B.C. powder is famous around the world, Mica has what others might call an unfair helping. For the best in heli skiing bc canada, book with Mica before their tours sell out.
